Healthy Habits: A Must-Have Mocktail for Your Thanksgiving Morning

Imagine that it’s the morning of Thanksgiving. Maybe you went out last night (on what is widely considered to be the most social night of the year, second only to New Year’s Eve)! Maybe you’ve been up for hours rolling pie crusts and basting the turkey. Or maybe you just really want something special to serve your house guests for breakfast. Skip the standard orange juice, and try a virgin Mary. It’s got everything you love about its vodka-based predecessor, the bloody Mary, only sans vodka: This antioxidants, vitamins A, B, C and E, and satisfying protein. BONUS: Swap out store-bought mix for home-made to score even more points on the health scale. Recipe below!

virgin bloody mary thanksgiving mocktail

6 lbs ripe heirloom tomatoes
2 tsp horseradish
1/3 cup clam juice (may omit to suit vegan diet)
1 lemon
1 lime
Worcestershire sauce
Tabasco sauce

Chop and strain tomatoes. Set juice aside for later. Puree strained tomatoes until smooth and add horseradish, clam juice (if included), and the juices from lemon and lime. Add as much or as little Worcestershire and Tabasco sauces as you desire. Finish with lots of salt and freshly cracked pepper. Stir before serving over ice in tall glass rimmed with cayenne pepper and sea salt mix.

Whole pared carrot
Bleu cheese- or jalapeno-stuffed olives
Swiss cheese and salami roll-up
Cold boiled shrimp
Asparagus stalk
Grilled cheese bite
Gherkin or dill pickle spear
Cucumber slice
