Healthy Habits: Celebrate Earth Day with a Bright & Tasty Smoothie

It’s Earth Day! What are you doing to celebrate? Will you get outside and take a walk? Plant your garden? Or, will you reflect on how you can give back to our planet? This Earth Day,  we suggest that you raise a glass to Mother Earth and fill it with all her goodness. Not to mention the fact that is also good for you! Skip the donuts and Danish and in minutes, whip up something right in your kitchen that contains ingredients that you can actually pronounce! A nutrient rich smoothie is a great way to get some vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in right off the bat. It can be a great alternative to fatty, empty calorie snacks. Make it ahead of time and bring it with you to work for a satisfying snack.

We like the idea of combining fruits and veggies rich in antioxidants with fiber, good fats and protein. A complete meal that is natural, healthy and honestly tasty!

Here are two favorites from our staff that we wanted to share with you this Earth Day,

Try this one in the morning (or anytime) to start your day right!

Popeye’s Elixer Smoothie
Crushed ice

1 cup water

2 cups baby spinach leaves

1 -2 Tbsp Ground flax seeds

1 Tbsp Chia seeds

1 Tbsp Coconut oil

1 scoop vanilla protein powder

1 small banana

Blend in a high-speed blender and enjoy!

If you like to sip your lunch or need a mid-day boost that will also boost your immune system, try incorporating turmeric into your daily diet. It is the most powerful of antioxidants, an anti-inflammatory and a brain booster! This surprising smoothie will have you hooked after one sip!  Not only does it contain turmeric, it also boasts energy boosting, anti-inflamatory and cancer fighting ingredients brought to you from none other than …. the earth! Tumeric has a slightly bitter taste. By blending it with sweet fruit, you won’t even notice it in the smoothie. Trust us, you’ll love the taste.

The Let’s Root for Turmeric Smoothie

1 cup hemp or coconut milk

1/2 cup frozen pineapple or mango chunks

1 fresh banana

1 tbs coconut oil

1/2 tsp tumeric

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp ginger

1 tsp chia seeds

Place all the ingredients in a blender and give it a spin!
