All across the U.S. and Canada, temperatures are hovering in the single digit range, and snow blankets the ground in 49 out of 50 states. (Yes, even Florida!) Rather than mourn the onset of a new Ice Age, consider this your opportunity to hibernate in style. The two seasonal cocktails below should help you turn up the heat–and give you ample reason to invite some friends over, light a fire, and browse Naturalizer’s new arrivals for spring 2017. Crafted just for us by Ritz-Carlton Saint Louis head bartender, Allen, these boozy beverages should make winter fly by and sandal season arrive before you know it!
BRITISH HOT TODDY
The hot toddy hails from Scotland, where frigid coastal winters demand a drink that soothe sore throats and cold hands. Technically, it consists of any mixture of spirits with water, but sweet and spicy garnishes are what give the toddy its notorious kick. Make our version with one ounce of Jameson Irish whiskey and 4 ounces of Twinings classic English breakfast tea steeped in boiling hot water. Just add honey, lemon juice and cinnamon to taste and to open the sinuses, induce sleep and otherwise battle common cold symptoms. Of course, you don’t need to call in sick to enjoy a hot toddy; as long as you’re in the mood to feel warm and fuzzy, you’re bound to enjoy this British-born treat.
If you’re seen the classic ’90s film The Big Lebowski, then you already know that this cocktail is basically a spiked mochaccino on ice. To capture the spirit of winter with this snow-colored bevvy, combine 2 ounces of Tito’s vodka, 3 ounces of whole or 2% milk and a splash of Kahlua (or any other coffee liqueur over ice. Garnish with a Maraschino cherry and serve to any guest who needs a wake-up call. This one comes packed with caffeine! BONUS: Wish you were on some sunny tropical isle? Craft your white Russian with dark rum instead of vodka, and you’ll feel beach-bound in minutes.
Special thanks to the Ritz-Carlton, Saint Louis for giving us these special cocktails!
