Ever wonder what happens at a photo shoot? It takes a lot of planning, prepping and people to create the beautiful images you see in the store windows, in the catalog and on Naturalizer.com. We asked Tracy, one of our creative gurus, about the shoot: “It all starts with the mood. Our designer, Angelique, creates shoes that work for every moment of every occasion. Then, we paint the picture around her designs – the colors of the season, the apparel that works with the shoes, and the way to incorporate these looks into your real life.” Here’s a little behind the scenes peek:
We have a wonderful photographer, a casting agent, hair and make up artists, a wardrobe stylist, prop stylist… basically an army of talented, energetic professionals. We then add the models by arranging a live “casting call” and we meet and review portfolios of models.

Next we decide the seasonal color palette and the wardrobe. This is based on trends from runway, what works for the real woman and the shoes, of course! We also choose make up and hair looks for each model for each shot.

We arrive on set a day in advance to finalize everything. It’s a long but necessary and productive day! When shoot day arrives we have everything mapped out to the last earring… or so we think! Last minute changes always occur and it usually makes the end result even better.
We have all become a family of sorts and we are never short on humor, music or wind machines. When it is all said and done, we can’t believe how quickly time flew and how much we accomplished. It’s bittersweet but so rewarding to see all the hard work come to life.
